Time for some recovery with Glutamine & Creatine

Apr 2, 2009

Tired from the WorkoutIn competitive sports recovery is everything for the athlete. The sport of mixed martial arts is no different. When athletes have multiple training sessions per day, sometimes food just isn’t enough. Along with a strong multi-vitamin like Animal Pak, the most import supplement for any hard training athlete is glutamine. L-glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in the bloodstream and at high enough doses can be extremely helpful in the fight against muscle breakdown. Glutamine can also help with:

  • Speeds up recovery time
  • Boost immune system
  • Build muscle mass
  • Helps with digestion

Glutamine just isn’t for post workout. Rich Franklin and I would take it before and after our strength and conditioning workouts back at New Generation Fitness. Both of us had great results with 10g before and after each practice. A personal favorite is Glutamine Select from Beverly International. Along with 5 grams of glutamine per serving, Glutamine select also has the branched chain amino acids l-leucine, l-isoleucine, and l-valine. The next supplement is this K.O. stack is Creatine Select by Beverly International. Before we get started I don’t want to hear any of this nonsense about the dangers of creatine. Creatine has been researched and studied more than any other sports supplement. Its safe! Creatine helps add strength, stamina, as well as other benefits like:

  • Shortens recovery time
  • Improves endurance
  • Increases muscle strength
  • Builds lean muscle tissue

Creatine and glutamine can work wonders for your post workout recovery. The amount of creatine depends on your level of training. The more you train, the more you should take. One more thing, make sure that your water intake is over a gallon a day.
