Oct 30, 2008

caffeineCaffeine happens to be the most widely used drug in the world. The Chinese were the first to discover it and people have been consuming it for over 5,000 years! Caffeine is derived from 60 different types of plants but the most common source is from coffee beans, tealeaves and cocoa beans.

Nine out of ten Americans drink caffienated drinks on a regular basis. Most people are getting 200 to 400 milligrams per day. Caffeine improves endurance; helps spike metabolism and helps with mental alertness. Some research shows that caffeine can aid in breathing for people with lung diseases and also reduce one’s risk of getting Parkinson’s disease. Sticking to around 400 milligrams per day is the suggested amount to consume. If you’re downing drinks and getting over 500 milligrams per day, you will likely become dehydrated, get anxiety& anxiousness and even gastrointestinal problems.

Do know that pregnancy and age also increases an individual’s sensitivity to caffeine as well so be mindful of that if you are pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant?

Don’t most ephedra diet pills also contain a pretty heavy dose of caffeine? Which is it that causes that jittery feeling people sometimes get?
