Eating Organic Foods Has Huge Health Benefits

Anti-oxidants Found in Organic Foods Have Major Health Benefits!

Within the last few years, eating organic has become the “it” thing to do. A vast amount of people believe that eating organic foods provides the best benefits in terms of health. Basically, organic foods consist of about 50% more nutrients, vitamins and minerals than commercial grade non-organic foods. When thinking of organic foods, most people only think of fruits and veggies, but the truth is, organic applies to a much more expanded grouping of food.

If you are considering switching to organic foods, then understand their benefits. One of the best benefits of eating organically is that you are giving your body better health. People who continuously avoid commercialized junk food and eat organically have been proven to live longer, healthier lives. The main reason to this is because junk foods are refined whereas organic foods are produced and refined naturally. Eating organic helps reduce serious illness such as the risk of cancer. Fruits and vegetables contain many nutrients as well as plentiful antioxidants. Organic foods are better for the environment and often taste better because of the fact that they are truly all-natural.

Turning to raw organic foods is a very healthy decision. When being cultivated and farmed, organic foods are grown without the use of harmful chemicals, therefore eliminating pollutiants, thus making the environment safer to live in. Buying and eating organically not only provides you with better health, but also contribute to the development of agriculture. Meaning when you buy this kind of food, you are helping in the distribution of the economy of agricultural industry. For this reason, you are giving back unlimited benefits.

Dieters Beware! Food Calorie Counts Are Frequently Off

Feb 5, 2010

When Food Calories Counts are Off, Try Ephedra Diet Pills

When Food Calories Counts are Off, Try Ephedra Diet Pills

Think about it, when you buy a 6-cylinder car, you expect 6 cylinders, right? Well, we like to think that if we buy a food item off of a menu that is listed at 500 calories, that it is actually 500 calories, but that isn’t always the case. We may be getting a lot more than that as a matter of fact. According to some recent studies, prepared foods may contain an average of almost 8% more calories than their package labels state and restaurant meals can often contain more than 18% more. Worse still is that as far as FDA regulations are concerned, that is just fine!

The studies findings collected a wide assortment of foods and started sampling their contents to find the true caloric counts. In all, 29 restaurants and 10 frozen food products were tested. These items were select foods that many dieters would be likely to choose with 500 calories or less. After being studied, reports showed the high-calorie truth behind each food tested, and numbers were more troubling than ordinary dieters would appreciate.

No one would deny that the 18% calorie overload found in most restaurant foods is a major issue. The additional 8% found in frozen foods is less serious but still a problem. Over the course of a year, consuming just 5% more than you need in a 2,000 calorie diet can turn into a 10 lbs weight gain!

Federal regulations are very strict about the accuracy of the net weight of a package of prepared food, which must be at least 99% of the advertised weight. When it comes to calories, the count can be a far larger 20% and still be ok. The government and FDA have no role at all in checking calorie claims in restaurants, which means that it is only up to the states to handle the task. Even with several restaurants publishing numbers that are accurate may still not give customers a truly realistic sense of what they are consuming. So, dieter beware, be cautious of what you eat because when counting calories, you might by off by more than a few!

FDA Crackdown on False & Misleading Food Labeling

Feb 1, 2010

New Report Makes Case For Ending Food Labeling Chaos

FDA Crackdown on False & Misleading Food Labeling

FDA Crackdown on False & Misleading Food Labeling

Can orange juice really help prevent or treat arthritis? That is the implication on the label of a Minute Maid orange juice fortified with glucosamine hydrochloride “designed to help protect healthy joints.” And it is exactly the kind of misleading health claim that the FDA wants to put a stop to. A list has been gathered of some of the most egregious examples of false claims, ingredient obfuscations, and other labeling shenanigans.

Though under the Obama Administration, the FDA is sending more warning letters to food manufactures about misleading labeling, many major companies, including Coca-Cola, Kellogg, Kraft and General Mills as well as Nestle, continue to confuse of defraud consumers about the health effects, ingredients, or “natural”-ness of their products.

Some notable offenders include:

Kellogg - On labels for Smart Start Strawberry Oat Bites cereal, the company deliberately misreads a report from the Institute of Medicine to falsely claim that consumers can eat 125 grams of added sugars per day.

Nestle - Labels for Carnation Instant Breakfast misleadingly claim that its antioxidants help “support the immune system.” While it is true that serious deficincies in vitamins A, C and E and other antioxidants can lead to serious health problems, consuming this or other products that make this common claim won’t help ward off colds, the flu or other maladies.

Kashi - The Kellogg owned brand, Kashi falsely claims that the green tea in its Heart to Heart Instant Oatmela will help “support healthy arteries.” the FDA does have a so-called qualified health claim for green tea that relates to cancer but has not agreed that green tea can protect arteries or fend off heart disease.

Minute Maid - The words “all natural” appear on Minute Maid’s Cranberry Apple Cocktail, yet the product contains added citric acid, meaning that the citric acid did not occur naturally in the juice. This product also contains high-fructose corn syrup, which is a highly complex series of chemical changes coverting startch to fructose and glucose.

For far too long, some of the world’s largest food manufacturers have designed their labels either to exaggerate the amount of healthy ingredients, or to imply that the food has magical, drug-like qualities that could prevent or treat serious and various health problems. Consumers need honest labeling so they can spend their food dollars wisely and avoid diet-related disease. Companies should market their foods without resorting to the deceit and dishonesty that is so unfortunately common today, with and without the FDA’s help.

Avoid Diet Woes By Not Succumbing To Your Favorite Treats

Avoid Diet Woes By Not Succumbing To Your Favorite Treats

Who is really in control when it comes to those tempting little snacks we crave so much – you or the sweet treat? Accept how much power the mouth watering treat has over you and you will be more likely to stick to your diet. Researched has shown that people often overstimate their ability to fight temptation, so they do not take reasonable steps to avoid it, then end up succumbing, most often in the worst of ways – binging! The best advice we can realistically give is to be aware of your weakness and take steps to avoid succumbing to your favorite treats – like not buying them at all!

Bobby Lashley vs. Wes Sims is official

Jan 27, 2010

Strikeforce finally announced an opponent for the former WWE and current TNA wrestler and MMA figher Bobby Lashley and it will be the 6′8″ Wes Sims January 30th on Showtime.  Sims is a 3 time UFC veteran with an unorthodox fighting style with a bit of controversy surrounding him in previous fights.

Bobby Lashley

Bobby Lashley Fight Is On

Strikeforce has struggled to secure a worthy opponent for Lashley up until now. On January 15th the Florida State Boxing Commission wouldn’t approve Strikeforce’s first choice to fight Lashley which was Yohan Banks on the grounds the fight would not be competitive.  The next day a fight between Lashley and MMA journeyman Jimmy Ambriz was approved by the FSAC but Strikeforce cancelled the fight on January 19th for unknown reasons.

This should be a decent test for Lashley since Sims is a big heavyweight with a long reach.  Lashley hasn’t fought since June 27th 2009 which ended in a win by submission due to strikes over Bob Sapp.  Hopefully this will be a good fight and not a freak show but we will have to wait until this weekend to find out!

Proper Bench Press Equals Massive Pecs!

Jan 25, 2010

Get Massive Pecs With Proper Bench Press Techniques

We all have ideas in our heads of the proper form when weightlifting. Each and every one of us has our own way of lifting weights and exercising.  We have all seen those guys in the gym who we think have bad or improper form, you know the guy doing standing straight bar curls and working his lower back or the guy on the bench press and the only part of his body touching the bench is his shoulders. Sometimes I honestly wonder if those guys can walk the next day??

We all want to lift as much weight as possible and some will sacrifice form over proper lifting techniques..  The higher weights will come maybe a little slower if you lift properly but, when you are finally up to those heavy weights you will do them easier and with fewer injuries.

Let’s go over some proper bench press forms, remember this is for muscle building and not power lifting:

1.    Grip Width – As a general rule the wider you grip the bar the more you will work the pectoral muscles. The narrower the grip the more you work your shoulders and triceps. You also do not want to go to wide while benching you can put your shoulders into a weaker position. Even those with long arms should not let your little finger go no farther than the outer ring on the bar. For most of us shoulder width or a little past is going to be perfect placement.

2.    Thumbless Gripping - I have no idea how this got started but, the thumbless grip while bench pressing is not only bad form but very dangerous. There is no evidence to show that you can lift more by using this grip. Your pec’s, front delts and tri’s are the muscles that push the weight the position of your thumb has nothing to do with it. Grip the bar with your thumb around the bar not only for safety but, good form too.

3.    Contact Points – Using three point’s of contact while benching will not only get you in good form but, also help to increase your weights..  Your feet should be in contact firmly with the floor at all times. Your butt and shoulders should maintain solid contact with the bench. Arch your lower back, but do not lift your butt off the bench into the air.

4.    Shoulder Placement – Start by tucking your shoulder blades underneath your body and focusing on pulling them inward so they touch, then downward as if toward your hips. This should force your chest outward and upward. This is exactly what you want and what will help you to train your pec’s, not use your front delts so much. This should also give you the best natural arch to your lower back. An added benefit to this part of the technique is that it will also stabilize your rotator cuffs more.

5.     Proper Movement - Lower the bar at an even pace touch the bar to your chest lightly while maintaining control and don’t bounce the bar off your chest. Remember, this is not about how much weight you can lift, it’s about how full and thick you can get those pec’s(the heavy weight will come later) Keep the tension on your pec’s at all times and touch the bar to your chest about 2/3 of the way up your sternum (breastbone). Finally, return it in virtually a straight line to the lockout position and go again. Remember 2 seconds up and 2 seconds down is a good pace.

6.    Proper Breathing – Proper breathing is also an important part of form. Breathing helps you to maintain your form and not start moving or shifting your body around on the bench. You should inhale and the bar is lowered to your chest and then exhale as the bar as pushed back up. Holding your breath is not only bad but, dangerous. There is also no scientific evidence that screaming or grunting uncontrollably helps you to lift more. Nice even breaths in and out will get the proper amounts of oxygen into your body.

With some time and patience, you’ll find that with proper form you will maximize your pectoral muscle development. By isolating your pec’s and by not using your front delts so much, this form forces your chest to overcompensate for the lack of deltoid involvement. By doing this your pec’s have no choice except to grow.

By doing this form right you should expect to feel some great pumps and have some very sore pec’s the following day.
